Improving business environments with Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
Dentsu Inc. is an international advertising and public relations company based in Tokyo, Japan and is the fifth largest advertising agency network in the world. After acquiring Aegis in 2012, Dentsu Aegis Network was formed, of which Isobar specializes in the digital transformation arm of the network.
A new workstyle reform was introduced in Japan, requiring Japanese companies to reconstitute their Human Resources processes. Focus on health, limits on employee overtime and the implementation of an “Equal Pay for Equal Work” policy meant companies had to redefine the interaction of their Human Capital Management systems. Dentsu Inc. leveraged this opportunity by strategically automating the processes required by the reform, and through their IT support entity, ISID (Information Services International-Dentsu, Ltd.), supported the workstyle innovations using an emerging technology, Robotic Process Automation (RPA). RPA is an automation technology that interprets business logic and structured inputs to streamline repetitive, rule-based business processes.
Implementing a full-scale automation project comes with its own challenges related to regional needs and regulations. Dentsu Inc. faced the issue of having to integrate automation into a wide range of business aspects with their own bespoke automation needs, and not only those required by the workstyle reform. RPA was seen as a solution as it manages the rapid automation of manual, rules-based, repetitive processes in compliance with local regulations. It was a flexible solution that automated its data-intensive accounting processes, managed processes related to reforms to its work environment.
The enterprise RPA platform, provided by our strategic technologic partner, UiPath enabled Dentsu Inc to manage high-volume tasks by using robot assistants (attended) and autonomous robots (unattended).
Over the following two years, 400 processes were automated by robots by the end of the first year, in the following year, an estimated 2’500 processes were automated. As these repetitive, high-volume tasks were entirely automated by Robots, Dentsu Inc had saved 10’000 hours per month in labour hours, reallocating employees to tasks to support and provide additional insights.
