Turning congestion into a game where everyone wins
Our social and playful approach to reducing peak hour traffic—Unlock The Grid—ensures Melbourne remains one of the world’s most livable and drivable cities.
Put Melbournians on the road to less congestion
Ever-increasing population growth caused Melbourne to experience higher levels of traffic congestion, leading to longer commute times and greater strain on the city’s infrastructure. VicRoads—the state’s road and traffic authority—needed to not only raise awareness of the issue, but also to change Melbournians’ commuting habits for the better.
Get all of Melbourne into the game of reducing peak traffic
Working with Melbourne’s traffic engineers, we calculated the live congestion score for the city—a world first. Then we challenged the locals to make their commute more efficient to lower the overall score. For 4 weeks, 8,000+ people took part in fun activities, unlocked challenges and shared with their friends through Facebook (reaching nearly 750,000).
